Bing Dwen Dwen, the chubby panda mascot of the Beijing Winter Olympics, has won over millions of fans after the Games kicked off on February 4, 2022. Souvenirs featuring the mascot have been selling out in shops and online stores, with scalpers even selling the Bing Dwen Dwen mascot for ten times the retail price.

This reminds me of the 1984 Olympic pin trading/buying fury. Many retailers took advantage of the trend and sold tens of thousands of pins at a high premium. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are of little to no value today.
