I grew up in Dehong. There were lots of rubber trees there. In the autumn, I went to tap the rubber latex with Dai aunties. I also picked some rubber seeds to make bracelets. Each rubber seed has a distinct pattern. Fresh rubber seeds are somewhat poisonous. Heat the seeds over high heat several times to remove the poison. Now they can be used to extract rubber seed oil. The oil is very thin and crystal clear. The taste is very light, with a texture between water and oil. It has a slight grain smell. I also made some dishes with the oil. For those of you who are thinking of trying this out, please understand that rubber seed oil contains cyanogenic glycosides which will release prussic acid in the presence of enzymes or in slightly acidic conditions. I'm not saying it's not safe to use for cooking but there's a reason why rubber seed oil aren't well known for cooking. It's generally safer and more profitable to use rubber seed oil to make soaps instead of cooking oil.

It's true. Rubber seed oil is used for non culinary purposes here in India. If it was safe for long term use, we would have used it long back for cooking.

Congrats, now you know you can harvest the seeds and process them into cooking oil. That's basically twice the profit you can get from the plantation.
