I think it's actually more in line with how the novel was written though. if you watch the clip on how huang shaotian rapid fire talks in the arena for season 2 compared to season 1, that's how it was.

Just for you guys who very new to this anime, I just got here from season 1. I found it really odd, full of gap, then I discover the All Star, it fills the gap! So my advice is, watch season 1 then All Star then season 2~
